4D means volume rendered live during the scan, not reconstructed after it. Three things have to line up for that: a volume transducer, an active rendering licence and enough processing to hold a usable frame rate. The catalogue holds 95 models from 14 brands listed with that capability. 63 of them carry current offers with a stated price: half are asked between $6,800 and $18,000, with $10,600 in the middle.
Most of the distance between two offers on the same model sits in the volume probe. A console sold without one is a 2D machine with a dormant licence, and the probe on its own can cost a large share of the system. Ask for transducers by part number and for confirmation that the rendering package is enabled on that serial.
The systems offered most often are the GE Voluson E8 and the GE Voluson E10. The list of 4D systems by asking price orders the same models by what suppliers ask for them. Specifications are typical for the model line as suppliers describe it, not the datasheet of one unit.
Half of the 63 priced models here are asked between $6,800 and $18,000, with $10,600 in the middle. The figures are read from offers open at the last catalogue refresh, not from a price list. Whether the volume probe is included moves the final number more than the build year does.
The hardware is largely the same; the difference is when the volume is built. A 3D system reconstructs a still volume after the sweep, a 4D system renders it live while the probe is moving. Many consoles do both once the licence is active, so the distinction is usually about software and probe, not about a different machine.
Not always, and this is the single question worth asking first. A 4D licence with no volume transducer gives you 2D imaging. Ask us for the probe list with part numbers and whether the lens has been inspected; we also get the price of a replacement volume probe from the same supplier before comparing two offers.
